corrupt AAU and youth sports

Blog, Featured No Comments

The culture of competitive youth sports in the US is, in many ways, toxic for healthy child development. Today’s ESPN story on the corrupt leadership of the AAU tells a story of adults who put their own monetary gain ahead of child welfare. Even more painful to read are the stories of child and family exploitation that occur every day on illogical quests for sport stardom, wealth, and fame. George Dohrmann’s book on this California AAU hoops team is the best I’ve read. If we are serious about sport reform and child wellness, we need to invest our time and attention toward wiping out the unethical and corrupt adults who are preying upon kids on courts and fields around the country.
