Background

As an undergraduate, I studied sociology and and played on the men’s basketball team for four years at the University of Notre Dame. I then served as a teacher and basketball coach for four years at high schools in Montgomery, Alabama and South Bend, Indiana. I completed my doctorate and worked in athletics and education at the University of Utah. My first faculty appointment was in the Department of Foundations and Leadership at Duquesne University. I taught undergraduate and graduate level courses at Duquesne and developed a research agenda that was particularly focused on issues of leadership in complex environments.  In the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I continue this research while teaching leadership courses and advising students. I also serve as UW’s faculty athletics representative to the Big Ten Conference and NCAA and I chair the University’s Athletic Board.

Away from work, I spend most of my time with my wife, Lindsey and our four wonderful children.
